A list of places we love, both local and online, featuring great products and great service.

Local Products:

Early Morning Harvest    Aquaponic produce and tilapia, milled wheat, rye, and buckwheat flours, cornmeal, corn grits, grass fed beef, eggs, and other seasonal produce.  Run by the world’s nicest people.  Store hours Saturday 9-3, 2425 Willow Avenue, Panora, Iowa.  Other local delivery locations available.

Sheeder Cloverleaf Dairy   Milk, cream, and ice cream made by happy cows.  Sold in cool glass bottles and available in many retail locations.  Based in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

The Des Moines Downtown Farmers Market   Arts and crafts, local produce, meats, flowers, prepared foods, baked goods, wine, plants, and beauty products from local vendors.  Open Saturdays 7-12 May 3 – Oct. 25, historic court district, downtown Des Moines.  Open Friday 11-2 and Saturday 9-1 November 21-22 and Dec 12-13, Capital Square, downtown Des Moines, Iowa.

Panora Square Fridays   Crafts, fresh produce, flowers, plants, antiques, and more.  Open Fridays 5-7, July and August, Panora town square.

Graziano Brothers Italian Grocery   Freshly made Italian sausage, olive oils, pasta, baked goods, wine, herbs.  Open M-F 8:30-3, Saturdays 8:30-5, 1601 S. Union Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

Garden Supply:

Panorama Gardens   Seeds, plants, garden supplies, and fresh floral arrangements.  Owners are super nice folks and my go-to for location-specific gardening information.  Open Monday-Saturday 8-5, 3055 Highway 44, Panora, Iowa.

Seed Saver’s Exchange   Heirloom seeds.  Online and many seed varieties available in some retail locations.  See website for specific information.

Farm Supplies:

Beekeeping:

Ebert Honey   Package Bees and locally-raised queens, honey, pollen, beeswax candles.  Great folks with high quality products.  Online.  Honey also sold in many retail locations in Des Moines metropolitan area.  Based in Lynnville, Iowa.

Local Attractions:

The Guthrie County Historical Village   Living historical museum featuring a log cabin, a general store, a church, a one-room school, a train station, an implement building, and more.  Open May 1 – October 15, Tuesday – Friday 10-4:30, Saturdays 1-4:30, 206 W. South Street, Panora, Iowa.

The Raccoon River Valley Trail   Bike trail, 89 miles in length, including a 72-mile loop.  Passes though Iowa towns of Jefferson, Cooper, Herndon, Jamaica, Dawson, Perry, Minburn, Dallas Center, Waukee, Clive, Ortonville, Adel, Redfield, Linden, Panora, and Yale.  Trail pass required.
